RAMALLAH Ñ About 200 Palestinian insurgents have surrendered to Israeli troops after the intense shelling of Palestinian Authority security headquarters. Another 200 remained in the complex.

Palestinian sources said the insurgents abandoned the headquarters of the PA Preventive Security Apparatus in the Ramallah suburb of Betunia on Tuesday.

The PA complex had been shelled for more than six hours by Israeli tanks and artillery to forces, Middle East Newsline reported.

Another 200 Palestinians are believed to have remained in the security headquarters. The sources said Israel is demanding their surrender as well. The sources said Western diplomats are trying to secure the exit of everybody in the PA headquarters in exchange for a cessation of Israeli fire.

In a related development, Hizbullah fired mortars toward Israeli positions near the Lebanese border. It was the second attack on Israel from Lebanon in as many days.
