French firm resumes offshore oil production
in Libya

LONDON — Europe's leading energy contractor has resumed crude oil production in Libya.

On Sept. 23, Total reported its resumption of production from an offshore platform, making the French company the first to resume operations in Libya since the ouster of Col. Moammar Gadhafi.

The Al Jurf platform, located 100 kilometers from Libya's western coast and operated by Mabruk Oil, resumed operations toward full capacity of 40,000 barrels per day.

"This will take a few weeks," Total said.

A Libya firm, Sirte Oil, reported the resumption of natural gas production from two fields in the east.

Sirte Oil chairman Fathi Issa said the gas was pumped to power electricity generating facilities along the Mediterranean coast.
