Syria finds natural gas field in Sunni hotbed

NICOSIA — Syria has reported the discovery of a natural gas field.

Officials said the regime of President Bashar Assad has determined a gas field in Homs, a stronghold of the Sunni revolt. They said the Oil Ministry would seek an international partner to develop the field in Qalamun, which has already undergone drilling.

"The first wells were drilled at Qara in Homs governorate and the flow rate is 400,000 cubic meters per day." Syrian Oil Minister Sufian Alawi said.
