Officials said a distribution station for the Egyptian pipeline was destroyed on July 12 near El Arish in the Sinai Peninsula.

They said several unidentified gunmen attacked the Tawil station, which contained a lone security guard.

This marked the second attack on the pipeline in a week and the fifth in 2011. So far, Egypt, which has demanded a significant increase in price for the energy, has not reported any arrests.

Both Jordan and Israel have expressed concern over the spate of attacks on the Egyptian pipeline, Middle East Newsline reported. Both governments said they would seek alternatives to Egyptian gas.
