U.S. firm to explore for oil near Sea of Galilee

WASHINGTON — A U.S. company said it would receive another license to explore for energy in Israel.

Zion Oil & Gas, based in Dallas, Texas, said it has been informed that it would be awarded an exploration license in the Issachar-Zebulun Permit area.

Zion said the forthcoming award would be called the Jordan Valley License and located south of the Sea of Galilee.

"It traverses south along the western Jordan River Valley," Zion said on April 14.

The company, with licenses that comprise 162,000 acres, has reported continued drilling in other operations in Israel. This included Maanit-Joseph-3, called one of the deepest wells drilled inside Israel.
