The West Qurna oil field has increased production from 244,000 to
285,000 barrels per day. The prime contractor, ExxonMobil Iraq, said the
latest figure exceeded a 10 percent increase set in the contract for West
Qurna.
ExxonMobil, with a 60 percent interest, has been partnered with the
Iraq's state-owned South Oil Co. The two companies have been drilling and
developing wells at West Qurna, Middle East Newsline reported.

Iraq has sought to significantly increase crude oil production to at
least four million barrels per day. ExxonMobil Iraq has been assigned the
project to increase West Qurna production to 2.1 million barrels per day.
