In December, the UN said it would not help Lebanon despite Beirut's request. The government of Prime Minister Saad Hariri has accused of Israel of approving energy exploration projects in waters claimed by Lebanon.

So far, Israel and Lebanon have not demarcated their sea border. Israel has reported huge gas reserves about 100 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast.
