Israel's Rafael Advanced Systems has been briefing foreign military delegations on the Iron Dome missile and rocket defense system, deemed operational in 2011. Executives said Rafael was providing data on Iron Dome's performance in intercepting Hamas rockets and missiles during a mini-war between Israel and the Gaza Strip in August, Middle East Newsline reported.

"There is intense interest in this system as there is nothing else that is operational," an executive said.

Rafael has sent a team to the Seoul Air Show to market Iron Dome. The South Korean defense exhibition, which began on Oct. 18, was said to comprise a major opportunity for Iron Dome amid interest by Seoul and other militaries in East Asia.

"The company will feature some of its advanced solutions, including the breakthrough, battle proven Iron Dome defense system against short-range artillery rockets, the Python-5 full sphere air-to-air IR missile and air defense missile, and Derby, a beyond visual range air-to-air and air defense missile," Rafael said.

In August, Hamas and its militia allies fired nearly 200 missiles, rockets and mortars into Israel. The two Iron Dome batteries were reported to have conducted about 30 interceptions in what Rafael said marked 95 percent effectiveness.

Executives said Iron Dome, already marketed in the United States, would undergo improvements in 2012 in wake of the Hamas mini-war. They said enhancements were planned to ensure that the battery could counter missile and rocket salvos.
