Gulf states weigh doubling Peninsula Shield force, adding new bases
ABU DHABI — After more than three years of deliberation, the Gulf Cooperation Council has finally received a proposal to significantly expand its regional military force.
The six-member GCC has begun examining a proposal that would establish bases of the Peninsula Shield regional force in every one of the six Gulf Arab states. The force would also be increased from 40,000 to more than 80,000 troops.
