Agreement with Syria gives Iran a presence in the Mediterranean
NICOSIA — The navies of Iran and Syria signed an agreement that would enable Teheran to gain a foothold in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Officials said the accord, signed in late February, called for joint exercises, training and Iranian Navy docking rights to Syrian ports.
