Cable highlights Pakistan sensitivity to U.S. role in securing its nukes

A classified cable from the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad from 2009 reveals that the United States has helped Pakistan to provide better controls on its nuclear arsenal. The June 2, 2009 cable, labeled secret and prepared for the visit of a senior U.S. official, stated that since the disclosure of the A.Q. Khan nuclear smuggling network that the Pakistani government "has sought to rehabilitate its image as a nuclear technology bazaar."
