MOSCOW — Russia has developed a cruise missile that some fear could be smuggled to Al Qaida or any other insurgency group.

A Russian company has introduced a cruise missile that could be taken anywhere and fired from any platform, including a truck. The weapon, called Club K, has been marketed by Russia's Morinformsystem-Agat and unveiled at MAKS-2011, which took place in Moscow in August, Middle East Newsline reported.

"There has been considerable interest in export orders," a company representative said. "We call it Pandora's Box."

Russian-origin weapons have found their way to several insurgency groups over the last decade, particularly Hamas and Hizbullah. They included such missiles as the AT-14 Kornet anti-tank guided missile, fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel in 2011.

The launcher contains four cruise missiles with a range of up to 270 kilometers. Morinformsystem said the Novator 3M-54TE missile, which contains a high-explosive warhead, is guided by radar and can travel 700 meters per second.

Club K was designed to be fired from any platform. This was said to include ships, trains, shipping containers or flatbed trucks.

The launcher, erected by hydraulics, is operated by two crew members. Club K, which could receive data from satellite communications, includes a sealed cabin that contains communications and targeting systems.
