Russia agrees to strengthen military ties with N. Korea following Siberian pipeline deal
North Korea and Russia are set to hold their first joint defense drills as early as this year in an attempt to balance the United States, South Korea and Japan's influence on the Korean peninsula, according to a news report in Tokyo.
The agreement was reached when North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il met Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Siberia in August.
