The U.S. embassy in Riyad warned Americans of an insurgency
strike in the Gulf Arab kingdom, Middle East Newsline reported. The embassy said the threats against Westerners could be focused in the northwestern province of Al Qassim.
"We have received credible information that an unidentified extremist[s]
in Saudi Arabia may be planning to attack Westerners working and living in
Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia," the embassy said on Aug. 4.

The embassy did not identify the attackers or say when the strike could
take place. Qassim has been regarded as a stronghold of supporters of Al
Qaida.
"The timing and method of potential attacks are currently unknown," the
embassy.
The statement said Americans should "exercise prudence and enhanced
security awareness at all times." The embassy did not elaborate, and the
Saudi Interior Ministry, which reported the arrest of more than 100 Al Qaida
operatives in 2010, has refused to confirm the reported threat.
