Iraq projects increased oil production in 2011

BAGHDAD — Iraq expects a significant increase in crude oil production in 2011.

The Iraqi Oil Ministry said crude oil output would rise by 17 percent over the next year. The ministry said the total Iraqi oil production capacity would reach 2.75 million barrels by early 2011, Middle East Newsline reported.

Officials said Asian companies have been negotiating contracts for energy exploration and development.

They cited Korea Gas Corp and Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGaz National, selected to develop the Akkas natural gas field.

The Baghdad government has sought to develop gas reserves for both export as well as electricity generation.
