"Gas demand in the Middle East has been rising by around seven percent per annum and it has outpaced the growth in regional gas production," the report, titled "The Global Gas Challenge," said.

The report said the Middle East constituted 12 percent of global gas production. Ernst said Middle East states would continue to import gas to meet rising energy consumption.
