After repeated delays, the Iraqi Oil Ministry awarded three gas fields
to regional contractors. The awards, announced on Oct. 20, would
develop fields with estimated combined reserves of 11.23 trillion cubic feet
of gas.
The first award, won by Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGas and South Korea's
Kogas, was to develop the western gas field at Akkas. Kuwait Energy won the
award for the Siba field near the southern port of Basra. The third award,
for the development of the Manouriya field, went to a consortium again led
by Kuwait Energy, teamed with Turkey's state-owned company TPAO and Kogas.
