Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Teheran would soon sign a gas sales accord with Bahrain.

In return, Mottaki said, Manama would invest in Iran's South Pars gas field.

"According to the agreements, Bahrain will invest in phases of South Pars and Iran will take part in Bahrain's refining and petrochemical industries, and finally Iranian gas will be exported to Bahrain," Mottaki said in a statement on June 29.

Under an agreement in principle signed in 2008, Iran pledged to export one billion cubic feet of gas per day to Bahrain. The following year, Manama severed negotiations after leading Iranians claimed that Bahrain was a province of their country.
