Officials said China would export six tankers for the transport of Iranian liquefied natural gas (LNG).

They said the deal was worth about $1.3 billion.

Iran's official Fars News Agency reported that China offered the LNG transports for less than South Korea, Teheran's longtime supplier of such vessels.

Officials said the tanker deal was signed by the state-owned National Iranian Tanker Co.

Officials said the LNG would come from Iran's South Pars field, regarded as containing one of the largest reserves in the world. They said China has been a leading partner in the development of Iran's energy sector.
