The UAE's Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co. has been developing an oil
field about 30 kilometers from the Gulf coast. The offshore field was said
to contain sufficient reserves to reach a production of more than 100,000
barrels of oil per day.
The UAE has already begun awarding contracts for the development of the
Umm Lulu field. The first major contract went to the U.S. firm Fluor Corp.,
assigned to conduct engineering and design.

Executives said Abu Dhabi Marine would develop Umm Lulu in several
stages. In the first phase, the oil field was expected to reach an output of
24,000 barrels a day. In the second stage this would increase to 105,000
barrels per day.
Meanwhile, Oman has advanced in efforts to increase crude oil
production.
Two companies have begun drilling an appraisal well in eastern Oman. CC Energy
Development SAL and Tethys Oil AB have spudded the Saiwan East-3 appraisal
well in Block 4 of the Gulf Cooperation Council sultanate.
The project marked Oman's efforts to increase oil production by
developing new areas of the country. Saiwan East-3 is located in
Neoproterozoic Khufai formation, believed by geologists to contain
significant energy reserves.
Saiwan East-3 has been drilled to a depth of 1,800 meters. The well is
near Saiwan East-2, developed in 2009 and said to contain recoverable oil
deposits.
