The Israel Security Agency said insurgency attacks from the West Bank and Gaza Strip rose sharply in September 2010. ISA reported 88 attacks last month, a more than 50 percent increase from August 2010, Middle East Newsline reported. No fatalities were reported.

"The increase in the number of attacks is salient in the area of Jerusalem," ISA said.

In a statement on Oct. 7, the agency, responsible for domestic intelligence, said attacks in Jerusalem rose from nine in August to 31 in September. Most of the attacks were reported in eastern Jerusalem, particularly the Silwan neighborhood near the Temple Mount.

ISA also cited an increase in Palestinian missile and rocket strikes from the Gaza Strip. In September, 38 attacks from the Gaza Strip took place, compared with 29 during the previous month.

"There is also an increase in Gaza-based attacks mainly high-trajectory launchings of rockets and mortar shells," the agency said.

In the West Bank, ISA reported a slight decrease in attacks, including firebombs, during September. Nineteen insurgency strikes took place in September, compared with 20 during the previous month.

"In September, there were no fatalities in terror attacks," the agency said.
