The Army said the Magna thermal camera system has been deployed in the
West Bank. The camera, manufactured by the Dimona-based Magna Co., was
operating in the area of Hebron.
"It is a warning system that provides intelligence coverage over a
specific area and provides a warning response to an intrusion," Israel Army
Maj. Oshri Itach, head of the Electronic Systems Department, said.

Itach did not provide details of Magna. But the officer said the system,
with an estimated range of more than five kilometers, integrates thermal and
regular cameras and was meant to scan the area between the West Bank and
southern Israel.
"In addition, the system is scheduled to be installed at several sites
in the area to help close possible infiltration routes," Itach said.
Over the next two years, Magna was expected to be installed throughout
the West Bank and linked to the operations facility at the Army's Central
Command. Officials said Magna could also serve as a motion sensor and relay
alerts of border infiltration to nearby Army outposts.
"The moment that our enemies understand that they can not pass through
certain areas even when there is no fence, we will have reached our goal,"
Lt. Lior Ovadia, weapons officer in Central Command, said.
