BAGHDAD — Kurdish sources said the Iranian Army attacked Kurds in the
autonomous region of northern Iraq. They said some of the Iranian attacks
have resulted in casualties.
"The Iranian soldiers are located along the Kurdistan border and they
open fire when they see farmers or other people nearby," a Kurdish source
said.
In December 2010, at least one Kurdish laborer was killed and another
two were injured in the Albak region. The sources said the Dec. 12 attack
targeted laborers along the Iranian border with Kurdistan.

In 2010, Iran conducted several military raids into Iraq's Kurdistan.
The sources said Iranian Army and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps patrols
routinely enter Iraqi territory in what is deemed counter-insurgency
operations.
On Dec. 13, Iran reported a major military exercise along the border
with Iraq. The exercise was reported after the conclusion of the ground
maneuvers, in which two officers were killed in an accident.
The Baghdad government has played down the Iranian incursions. Teheran
has asserted that the operations were meant to block Kurdish insurgents,
particularly the so-called Party of Free Life of Kurdistan, aligned with the
Kurdish Workers Party.
