Officials said Iran would not begin to phase out subsidies meant to increase the price of gasoline and other fuel.

They said the removal, scheduled to have begun in late September, would be delayed for at least a month.

Iranian Fuel Transport Management Organization director Mohammed Royanian said full gasoline subsidies would continue through Oct. 22, Middle East Newsline reported. The level of subsidies has depended on the amount of fuel consumption, subject to rationing.

Teheran has maintained full subsidies despite a sharp decline in fuel imports in a campaign led by the United States. Subsidized prices for motorists, with a monthly ration of 60 liters, amount to the equivalent of $0.10 per liter.
