Italy's Eni has relayed its operation of an Iranian oil field to local
partners, Middle East Newsline reported. The company said it ceded Darkhovin oil field to avoid being
sanctioned by the United States for conducting major energy operations in
Iran.
"Our activities in Iran could lead to sanctions under relevant U.S.
legislation," Eni said.

"Specifically, activities are progressing to hand
over operatorship of the Darquain [Darkhovin] oil field to the local
partners as development activities were concluded at this field in 2009."
Eni, with operations in Iran since 1957, said Darkhovin remained the
sole oil field operated by the Italian company in Iran. The company said it
has been reimbursed for investment in another unidentified project.
