On Nov. 11, ISS raided the office of a leading Fatah member in the
southern town of Rafah. About 30 ISS officers stormed the office of
Palestinian Legislative Council member Ashraf Jumaa, also regarded as a top
Fatah operative in the Gaza Strip.
"An ISS force stormed the office of PLC member Ashraf Jom'a on the
fourth floor of Qishta building in Rafah, while a documentary about the late
Khalil Al Wazir, one of the most prominent leaders of Fatah movement and
Palestine Liberation Organization, was being shown," the Palestinian Center
for Human Rights said.
The human rights group said the ISS force arrested 30 Fatah members during
the commemoration of the death of PA Chairman Yasser Arafat in 2004. The
detainees were forced to sign a pledge not to participate in the Arafat
commemoration.
The sources said ISS has also been monitoring the Al Qaida-aligned
network in the Gaza Strip. Al Qaida groups, including Army of Islam, have
been operating in such cities as Gaza City, Khan Yunis and Rafah.
ISS has established facilities in every city in the Gaza Strip, the
sources said. In Rafah, ISS was located in the Tel Sultan neighborhood next
to the border with Egypt.
