Hamas calls for missile war on Israel from
the West Bank

RAMALLAH — The Hamas regime has called for an escalation in the insurgency war against Israel. The call came as Israel released Sheik Nayef Rajoub, the leader of the Hamas network in the West Bank.

Hamas Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar urged Palestinians in the West Bank to launch missiles and rockets toward the Jewish state.

"There is no escaping from these rockets in the West Bank," Zahar said in an interview with the Palestinian daily Al Quds. "Why should they only be in the Gaza Strip? The solution is resistance."

Rajoub, the former Islamic Affairs minister in the Palestinian Authority, was arrested by Israel in 2006 after the Hamas abduction of an Israeli soldier.

Rajoub is the brother of former PA security chief Jibril Rajoub, now a member of the Fatah Central Committee. The 51-year-old cleric is the latest Hamas leader to be freed by Israel in 2010, following the release of Mohammed Tir and Aziz Dweik.

Israel has failed in efforts to use the arrest of Hamas leaders to win the release of the Israeli soldier, Sgt. Gilad Shalit. Shalit's parents have launched another campaign to press Israel to reach a deal with Hamas for their son's release.
