Executives said the UAE Air Force has ordered 60 UH-60L Black Hawks from the U.S. firm Sikorsky Aircraft, Middle East Newsline reported. They said the first stage of the project was for the delivery of 20 Black Hawks.

"The new 40 UH-60M aircraft will be released in February 2011 with deliveries running through 2013," Sikorsky vice president Joseph Gigantelli said.

The purchase of the first 20 Black Hawks was reported at $300 million.

Executives said the UAE order marked a direct commercial transaction rather than a project through the U.S. government.

"We have already sold into Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain and we will be looking at Kuwait and Qatar as well in the future," Gigantelli said along the sidelines of the UAE's Dubai Helishow.

The UAE Air Force has been maintaining and upgrading its Black Hawk fleet. At Helishow, which ended on Nov. 4, the Air Force exhibited a UH-60 equipped with the Star Safire multi-sensor system, manufactured by FLIR.
