A security court sentenced a 30-year-old dissident blogger to six months
in prison. Ahmed Bassiouny, 30, created a Facebook group for Egyptians
eligible for compulsory military service.
The Egyptian court convicted Bassiouny on charges of exposing classified
information. Bassiouny said he had posted information on Egypt's draft from
the Internet. They included documents required from draftees.

Human rights groups said Bassiouny's trial, held in camera, marked the
latest in the crackdown on dissidents by the regime of President Hosni
Mubarak. The groups said the Mubarak regime has been intimidating
independent and dissident bloggers as well as seeking to restrict access to
the Internet.
Bassiouny was arrested on Nov. 12 and was also charged with releasing
official information without permission. His attorney, Jamal Id, said his
client simply wanted to help young Egyptians with the military bureaucracy.
