Egyptian security sources said police and security units captured a convoy of weapons and explosives in the divided city of Rafah along the border with the Gaza Strip, Middle East Newsline reported. They said the cache contained more than 150 kilograms of TNT.

"This was the largest seizure of smuggled weapons in 2010," a security source said.

The sources said the weapons and explosives had been transported by 16 vehicles to the huge tunnel network that spanned the Egyptian-Gaza border. They said the cache found on Oct. 18 contained machine guns, grenades, mines, body armor and other equipment.

No arrests were reported. The sources said the shipment was to have been smuggled through three tunnels from Sinai to Gaza. One of the tunnels was large enough for the transport of the vehicles.

The sources said Egypt has made significant gains against weapons smuggling to the Gaza Strip. In 2010, they said, Egypt discovered 582 tunnels, 16 of them large enough for the smuggling of cars and trucks.
