Coup fears in Iraq as tensions mount between Sunni, pro-Iran groups

U.S. intelligence agencies are keeping a close eye on a possible military coup in Iraq amid concerns about growing political instability in Baghdad. The coup fears were prompted by worries that Iraqi leader Nouri al Maliki will not be able to remain in power and that the Iraqi military, or possibly hardline Shi'ite militias will seize power.
