China steps up crackdown on hundreds of Charter 08 signers
Since the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to imprisoned Chinese democracy advocate Liu Xiaobo, China has stepped up repression against other pro-democracy activists. Dozens of Chinese have been detained, roughed up by security forces, harassed and prevented from leaving their homes in the week since the Nobel was awarded to Liu, who is currently in prison on sedition charges that led to an 11-year sentence.
