China warships enforce ban on fishing by other nations in South China Sea
China recently launched an annual fishing ban in the South China Sea amid growing tensions and new fears that Beijing will attempt to control open oceans, a situation that led to clashes with U.S. naval vessels in 2009.
China’s fisheries administration vessels will attempt to enforce the 10-week ban on most kinds of commercial fishing from the 12th parallel north of the disputed Spratly Islands up to the Chinese coast, encompassing waters around the disputed Paracel Islands.
