Kissinger opposes pressuring his client, China, on democracy reforms

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger last week dismissed the notion that the United States should prod China into adopting democratic political reforms. Kissinger, who has extensive business ties to major Chinese state-owned companies, was asked at a speech if the failure to press Beijing to democratize is producing a new “China model” of authoritarian state-capitalism.
