ABU DHABI Ñ The United Arab Emirates plans to double natural gas supplies over the next 18 months.

The UAE state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company intends to nearly double domestic gas supplies in 2009.

Adnoc plans to increase its gas sales of around two billion cubic feet per day to 3.6 billion in 2009.

"We are developing lots of projects to meet the phenomenal growth for gas in Abu Dhabi," Adnoc gas processing division manager Ismail Al Ramahi said on Feb. 19.

Al Ramahi said Adnoc planned to issue a tender for an integrated gas development project to process one billion cubic feet of gas per day. He said UAE gas requirements were growing at a rate of 10 percent per year.
