CAIRO — Iranian-backed Shi'ites have renewed their revolt in
northern Yemen.
Officials said the Iranian-financed Believing Youth Movement are again
fighting with the Yemen Army near the Saudi border. They said more than 30
people were killed in a battle on Jan. 10.
The renewed warfare was reported in Yemen's Saada province, a stronghold
of Shi'ite rebels, Middle East Newsline reported. Officials said Shi'ite fighters attacked army bases in
the Maran mountains near the Saudi border.

The Yemen Army responded with artillery strikes and helicopter missions
against Shi'ite targets. The army also sent main battle tanks to protect key
installations in Saada.
The fighting shattered a six-month-old ceasefire between the Sanaa
government and Believing Youth. The movement has been led by Abdul Malik Al
Houthi, the son of a late prominent Shi'ite cleric.
The Shi'ites have blamed the army for the fighting. Shi'ite sources said
the army has killed at least 12 people.
