BAGHDAD Iraq has increased its crude oil exports.

The Oil Ministry said Iraqi crude oil exports increased by six percent in January 2008 from the previous month. The ministry said oil exports in January reached 59.6 million barrels.

The ministry announcement, issued on Feb. 27, marked one of the first reports of an increase in Iraqi crude oil exports. In January, Iraqi oil production reached an average of 2.4 million barrels per day. Exports were reported at 1.92 million barrels per day.

In December 2007, the ministry said, Iraqi oil exports averaged 1.81 million barrels per day. Baghdad has sought to increase oil exports amid insurgency strikes on northern and southern oil fields.
