CAIRO — Yemen has found what could be a major energy reserve.
Yemen's Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority reported
finding what could be a major crude oil and natural gas reserve in the Red
Sea. PEPA said the reserve extends into the Gulf of Aden and offshore
Socotra Island, Middle East Newsline reported.

"Old drilling operations in some offshore areas confirmed the existence
of gas and oil indicators" PEPA chairman Ahmed Ali Abdullah told the
official Yemeni news agency Saba.
Abdullah said PEPA has redivided Yemen's territorial waters into 25
offshore blocks. He said 11 blocks would be offered for tender.
