Iraq conducts oil exploration for first time since 1980s
BAGHDAD — After more than 20 years, Iraq has resumed crude oil
exploration.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry said oil exploration would take place beginning on Aug. 8
in the Gharraf field in Nasseriya. The ministry said the search would
be conducted by teams of engineers, geologists and geophysicists, Middle East Newsline reported.
"These three teams are part of a group the oil ministry formed to renew
exploration activity in order to change the unconfirmed reserves to
confirmed ones," ministry spokesman Asim Jihad said.
