Bahrain to invest $2 billion in refinery/production upgrade
ABU DHABI — Bahrain intends to expand oil refinery capacity, government energy officials say.
The Gulf Cooperation Council kingdom plans to augment capacity of its
Bapco refinery, with five crude distillation units. Under the plan, the
refinery would reach a capacity of 360,000 barrels of oil per day, up from
the current 260,000.
"The next phase of investment will cost more than $2 billion," Bahraini
Energy Minister Abdul Hussein Al Mirza said on May 25. "Some units at the
plant are old and need upgrading."

Al Mirza said the project would be completed by 2016. He said Bahrain
hopes to receive additional crude oil from neighboring Saudi
Arabia. Manama receives 220,000 barrels of Saudi oil per day.
