Iraq qualifies 35 firms for oil and gas contracts

BAGHDAD — Iraq has granted approval to 35 companies to bid on energy tenders.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry has accepted 35 out of 120 companies that applied to bid on crude oil and natural gas contracts. Officials said the prequalification process was meant for future energy tenders.
"Up to now, 35 companies have been qualified out of 120 companies that presented their documentation to the oil ministry," Iraqi government spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh said on April 13.
Officials identified some of the firms as ExxonMobil, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Gazprom, LukOil, Inpex, Mitsubishi and Sinochem.
The government has warned that any firm that operates without permission in the autonomous northern zone of Kurdistan would not be permitted to bid for tenders issued by Baghdad.
