NICOSIA — Syria has reported energy cooperation with Iran, Venezuela and Malaysia.

Officials said Iran has helped establish major energy facilities, including an oil refinery. They said Iran could also help develop Syria's natural gas reserves. Alaw said Syria has signed an agreement with Iran, Malaysia and Venezuela to establish the refinery. Syria, with production of 385,000 barrels per day, has reported oil reserves of 2.5 billion barrels.

"We have a wide cooperation with Iran in the fields of oil and gas, and currently we are constructing an oil refinery in the district of Al Ferqles in the Homs province with capacity of 140 million barrels annually," Syrian Energy Minister Sufian Alaw said on Monday.
