RAMALLAH — Israel failed in an attack on the military wing of the
Iranian-sponsored Islamic Jihad.
Jihad's Al Quds Brigades military wing said Israeli troops fired on its
leader in the Faraa refugee camp in the West Bank on Oct. 22, Middle East Newsline reported. Al Quds
Brigades said Same Al Ghoul, the Jihad military commander, escaped unharmed.
"A unit of the Israeli special forces infiltrated into the camp near the
city of Nablus, firing a barrage of bullets towards the leader, Samer Al
Ghoul, who managed to escape to to one of the camp's houses," Jihad said in
a statement.
Jihad said Palestinian residents hurled stones toward the Israeli force.
The statement said the army withdrew from a house where Al Ghoul was
believed to have escaped to hours later.

The Israeli military has deemed Jihad a leading element in the
Palestinian insurgency in the West Bank.
Military sources said Jihad has
planned scores of suicide bombings since Hamas declared a ceasefire with
Israel in June 2008.
