United Arab Emirates to host NATO conference on threat to energy sources
ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates is hosting a NATO seminar
on security and energy in the Persian Gulf region.
The UAE has concluded preparations to host a two-day NATO meeting in Abu
Dhabi, Middle East Newsline reported. The meeting was meant to begin on Oct. 8 and include officials,
parliamentarians and analysts from NATO and Gulf Cooperation Council
members.
"This strategic meeting contributes to creating a common understanding
between NATO countries and the GCC region, and will address the global
challenges faced by the Middle East," UAE Federal State Minister Anwar
Gargash said.

Organizers said the conference, titled "The Middle East and Global
Challenges," would focus on the situation in the Middle East and Gulf
regions. They said speakers would address the threat to GCC energy
facilities.
NATO has been wooing GCC states to sign formal cooperation agreements.
So far, Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE have agreed to cooperate with NATO on
non-combat issues.
"The event will serve as a crucial platform to exchange opinions and
experiences and also highlight the political experience of the UAE and the
efforts taken to enhance political practices," Gargash said on Oct. 6.
