ANKARA — Iran and Turkey plan to establish strategic relations in
the field of energy.
The United States has expressed quiet concern over the Iranian-Turkish
plans. The issue has been raised by the U.S. embassy in Ankara.
Under the plan, Iran would provide energy to Western Europe through
existing pipelines that run through Turkey and Greece. Government sources
said Turkey was prepared to invest $2 billion to market and operate Iranian
energy for Europe, Middle East Newsline reported.
The two countries said they plan to launch joint projects to explore for
crude oil and natural gas as well as construct three power plants. Ankara
and Teheran also intend to join forces to supply Iranian oil and gas to
Europe.
