ABU DHABI — A leading U.S. oil services provider has decided to move to the United Arab Emirates.

Halliburton said it would establish a regional office in the UAE port of Dubai. Executives said the move would facilitate the company's efforts to increase business in the Gulf market, Middle East Newsline reported.

"The opening of a headquarters in Dubai is the next step in a strategic plan announced in 2006 to focus on expanding customer relations with national oil companies while concentrating more of the company's investments and resources in growing its business in the Eastern Hemisphere," Halliburton president Dave Lesar said.

The Dubai office was designed to bolster Halliburton activities in the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and Eurasia regions. In 2006, executives said, more than 38 percent of Halliburton's $13 billion oil field services revenue stemmed from its Eastern Hemisphere operations.
