ISRAEL CAPTURES JIHAD COMMANDER
RAMALLAH [MENL] -- Israel has captured a leading commander of the
Iranian-sponsored Islamic Jihad.
An Israeli Army force has arrested the commander of Islamic Jihad in the
West Bank city of Nablus. On Thursday, combat units captured Mohammed
Kitaneh in a hideout in Nablus.
"Kitaneh has been transferred to the custody of the General Security
Service for questioning," an Israeli military statement said.
Kitaneh was deemed a leading commander of Jihad in the West Bank.
Israeli and Palestinian sources said Kitaneh was responsible for recruiting
and equipping suicide bombers for attacks in Israel.
"He was planning an imminent suicide bombing," an Israeli source said.
Jihad has been the most active insurgency faction in the Palestinian war
against Israel. The group has a major presence in such West Bank cities as
Jenin and Nablus.
