A 15-year-old Palestinian, Mohammed Ayad, was shot and killed in a clash
with Hamas forces on Nov. 9 in the Sejaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza City. The
sources said four other clan members were also injured.
"Armed clashes erupted between militants from Hamas and others from the
Ayad clan in the Sejaiyeh neighborhood in Gaza City, when members of the
clan refused to allow the militants of Hamas to plant bombs near their
homes," the Palestinian Center for Human Rights said on Sunday.
The center said this was the second such incident within 24 hours in
which Hamas troops attacked Palestinians who sought to stop war
preparations. On Nov. 10, a 25-year-old Palestinian, Ahmed Suleiman Abu
Meghassib, was killed in Wadi Al Salqa in the central Gaza Strip when Hamas
forces tried to take over his house as a sniper position against Israeli
troops.
Hamas, trained by Iran and Hizbullah, has recruited more than 50,000
fighters to repel any Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip. The fighters have
been equipped with assault rifles, communications and night-vision equipment
as well as anti-tank weapons.
The clashes also took place amid tension between Hamas and the
opposition Fatah movement. On Sunday, Hamas's Executive Force attacked a
Fatah assembly in Khan Yunis that sought to commemorate the third
anniversary of the death of PA Chairman Yasser Arafat.
"PCHR is gravely concerned over the increasing number of casualties
resulting from the misuse of weapons," the center said. "PCHR calls upon the
Palestinian National Authority, represented by the attorney-general, to
investigate these incidents, to bring those who are found responsible to
justice and to take necessary measures to ensure their non-recurrence."
