GAZA CITY — The Gaza Strip has been struck by a wave of violence.
Over the weekend, the Gaza Strip experienced a series of incidents involving
theft, gun
battles and attempted abductions. No arrests were reported in the attacks,
said to stem from militia and clan rivalries.
In Khan Yunis, suspected Hamas gunmen sought to assassinate an officer
of the National Security Forces, Middle East Newsline reported. The assassination attempt on late March 31
by a carload of gunmen failed, and no casualties were reported.
Another Fatah-aligned security officer was also attacked in Gaza City by
a carload of suspected Hamas gunmen. Other officers of the National Security
Forces returned fire, but nobody was injured.
Gun battles were also reported in the northern and central Gaza Strip.
In one incident, the home of a militia operative was damaged by a bomb in
the Jebalya refugee camp. Nobody was killed.
In the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, a Palestinian was shot
during an abduction attempt. The Palestinian, identified as Fadel Mahmoud
Sayed, was injured and treated at a nearby hospital.
