ABU DHABI — Gulf Arab crude oil refining capacity is projected to
increase sharply over the next three years.
The combined crude oil capacity of the six Gulf Cooperation Council
states would rise by 45.5 percent to 6.3 million barrels per day by
2010. A report by the United Arab Emirates' Emirates Industrial Bank cited
plans to construct large refineries in four GCC states, Middle East Newsline reported.
"The potential increase is a result of four new refineries planned in
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman, as well as of renovating old
refineries and increasing their production capacity in the UAE and Kuwait,"
the report said.
